Parents, caregivers and educators of 4-to-7-year-olds can learn simple, proven tools to help children handle conflict and make better choices in a free, six-week online course starting Tuesday, Sept. 22. Evening or morning options are available and are interchangeable.
Taught by UW–Madison Extension family educators, “Raising a Thinking Child” teaches adults how to guide children to solve their own everyday problems, handle frustration, and consider the consequences of their actions. Instead of just telling kids what to do, participants learn simple ways to ask questions that encourage children to think for themselves.
“I can see my son thinking things through and solving problems on his own now,” said one past participant. “I also noticed that I’m more open-minded and thinking before I react as well.”

The course is offered on Tuesdays, Sept. 22 to Oct. 27. The online class is offered via Zoom. There are two time options, morning from 9 to 10:15 a.m. or evening from 6 to 7:15 p.m.
The class is free for Barron, Dane and Dunn county residents (with local pickup of course materials). Out-of-county residents or those needing materials shipped pay $25.
Registry Credit is available for early childhood educators.
Participants will receive weekly, easy-to-use activities to try at home or in the classroom between sessions.
